March 2009 Alliance Summary
On March 29-31, 2009, Jim Lincoln represented the SICP at the spring Alliance for Quality Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (AQMIRT) meeting in Destin, Florida. There were several items discussed over the two days, which included:
- The current environment on capital hill for CARE Bills
- Who we are dealing with (Alliance connections) and what we are doing
It was discussed that grass roots efforts need to take place now at the state level. This means contacting your local legislators in an effort to educate them on the importance of the passage of this CARE Bill and the cost savings associated, i.e. patient safety, fewer repeat procedures, and Medicare reimbursement.
Lincoln has personally contacted Senators Kennedy and Reed's offices requesting to meet and discuss the CARE Bill, dates are pending. SICP urges all SICP members to do the same, contact your Senator and Representative ask for a meeting. A virtual march on the Hill is coming up; more information and direction will be provided when a date has been confirmed.
The environment for healthcare reform is one of shared leadership and is on the fast track for 2009. The CARE Bill is currently being marketed on the Hill and there is a high probability that health reform, Medicare, and Medicaid amendments will all pass this year.
Things look favorable as of now, that the CARE Bill will pass this session; it will likely be introduced late summer and tied to other healthcare reform initiatives. Now is the time to get involved! Information is available. Strength is in numbers.
Please show that you care about your patients, your employers, and the care we provide as practitioners by being a voice and being heard.
